NEW YORK CITY — The lights dimmed, the crowd hushed, and in true Blumhouse fashion, chaos followed.
Fans packed into a buzzing auditorium at New York Comic Con 2025 on Friday, Oct. 10, expecting a sneak peek at the upcoming Five Nights at Freddy’s 2. What they got instead was a full-blown frenzy — complete with casting bombshells, a first-look teaser, and appearances that sent the crowd into a screaming fit worthy of the franchise’s most haunting animatronics.
The horror studio Blumhouse Productions, which brought the record-breaking 2023 adaptation of the hit indie video game to the big screen, confirmed that Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is officially underway — and that Megan Fox will voice the fan-favorite character Toy Chica.
Director Emma Tammi, who returns to helm the sequel, shared the news in front of a packed hall of fans.
“Her kids happen to be huge ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s’ fans, so she’s been hearing about this world for a long time,” Tammi explained to roaring applause. “She was really pumped to do the voice of Toy Chica, and she did the most amazing job. She wanted to pay homage to the games but also make it her own.”
The announcement was punctuated by a dramatic on-screen reveal — a glowing photo of Fox, instantly met with audible gasps and cheers from the audience.
Megan Fox Joins the Fright
Fox, best known for her roles in Transformers, Jennifer’s Body, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, marks a high-profile addition to the Five Nights at Freddy’s universe. While she’s no stranger to genre roles that blend beauty, danger, and dark humor, her turn as the flirty-yet-lethal Toy Chica offers a fresh spin on her career.
For many fans, Fox’s casting was both unexpected and perfect — blending her signature attitude with the eerie allure that defines the animatronic world of Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza.
“This casting is brilliant,” one fan tweeted shortly after the announcement. “Megan Fox as Toy Chica? She’s literally the human version of her.”
Alongside Fox, Kellen Goff and Matthew “MatPat” Patrick were announced as the voices of Toy Freddy and Toy Bonnie, respectively. Goff is well known among gamers for voicing characters in the original FNAF video games, while MatPat — the creator of the massively popular Game Theorists YouTube channel — has spent nearly a decade analyzing FNAF lore.
In a pre-recorded video message played for fans, Patrick reflected on his surreal new role:
“I’ve gone from being a theorist about ‘FNAF’ to being stuffed inside of an animatronic suit. I think that’s probably the greatest honor any ‘FNAF’ theorist could hope for.”
The statement was met with laughter, applause, and a standing ovation from longtime fans who’ve followed Patrick’s work since the early days of the FNAF fandom.
Returning Cast and New Horrors Await
Following the breakout success of the first Five Nights at Freddy’s film — which grossed over $290 million worldwide despite a simultaneous streaming release — the sequel reunites core cast members Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Lail, and Matthew Lillard.
According to the official studio logline, the story picks up one year after the events of the original film, with former security guard Mike (Hutcherson) and police officer Vanessa (Lail) attempting to shield Mike’s younger sister Abby (Piper Rubio) from the terrifying truth about the animatronics’ sinister past.
But when Abby sneaks away to visit her mechanical friends — Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy — a chain reaction of horrors unfolds, “revealing dark secrets about the true origin of Freddy’s and unleashing a long-forgotten evil hidden away for decades.”
Director Emma Tammi teased that the sequel would go deeper into the mythos that fans have obsessed over for years, building on the emotional and psychological threads from the first film while ramping up the horror.
“We’re really leaning into the lore this time,” Tammi said. “Fans wanted more jump scares, more history, and more heart — so that’s what we brought.”
Matthew Lillard’s Dramatic Entrance
One of the panel’s biggest crowd-pleasers came when Matthew Lillard, who plays the enigmatic villain William Afton, made a surprise entrance by dramatically rolling onto the stage.
“I just blew out my knee,” he joked to uproarious laughter, before standing to salute the cheering crowd.
Lillard, a fan-favorite for his iconic roles in Scream and Scooby-Doo, praised Tammi and the production team for “listening to what fans wanted” from the sequel.
“You guys like the lore, right?” he shouted, prompting thunderous applause. “Would you like more jump scares? Would you like it to be scarier in general? We did that!”
The crowd erupted again, confirming that Blumhouse had successfully tapped into the heart of FNAF’s massive, loyal fanbase — one that thrives on mystery, community theories, and late-night terror.
Beyond Freddy’s: Blumhouse Teases Its Expanding Horror Universe
The Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 presentation wasn’t the only highlight of Blumhouse’s Comic Con showcase. The studio also surprised fans with a video message from Lin Shaye, filmed on the set of Insidious 6 in Australia.
At 81, Shaye returns once more as Elise Rainier, the psychic medium who has become the emotional anchor of the Insidious franchise.
“You want to go into the Further?” she teased in the video, referencing the eerie alternate realm that has haunted audiences for over a decade. “You’re going to go into the Further.”
The message confirmed that Insidious 6 will hit theaters in August 2026, as Blumhouse continues expanding its horror universe — from haunted houses to possessed robots.
A Cultural Phenomenon in Motion
What began as an indie video game created by Scott Cawthon in 2014 has evolved into one of the most successful horror franchises of the decade. The Five Nights at Freddy’s universe has spawned multiple sequels, books, fan theories, and endless online speculation.
The first film’s success proved that video game adaptations could not only satisfy fans but also bring in general audiences through atmosphere and nostalgia. With Fox’s star power, Tammi’s creative direction, and Blumhouse’s mastery of high-concept scares, the sequel looks poised to double down on everything that made the original a surprise sensation.
And if New York Comic Con’s thunderous reaction was any indication, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 might be the most anticipated horror release of 2026.
