Rockstar’s Bully Is Returning — And It’s Changing Everything

Rockstar’s Bully Is Returning — And It’s Changing Everything

October 28, 2025

Rockstar Games may be best known for its mega-hit franchises like Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption, but there’s another fan-favorite title that has lived in gamers’ hearts for nearly two decades — Bully. And after years of silence, it looks like fans’ prayers have finally been answered.

Originally released in 2006 for the PlayStation 2, Bully was Rockstar’s unique take on open-world storytelling, blending mischief, humor, and emotional depth into a schoolyard setting. The game follows Jimmy Hopkins, a rebellious teen who finds himself enrolled at Bullworth Academy, a private boarding school filled with cliques, chaos, and more than a few bullies to put in their place.

While the premise might sound simple, Bully carried Rockstar’s signature tone — satirical, rebellious, and surprisingly heartfelt. Over the years, it’s become a cult classic, celebrated for its witty dialogue, immersive world, and memorable cast of characters. Despite several re-releases under the title Canis Canem Edit, fans have long demanded a sequel or remaster — and though Rockstar itself has remained quiet, the community has decided to take matters into its own hands.

Bully Online Is Officially Happening

According to a post by SWEGTA, a well-known content creator and long-time Bully community figure, a brand-new fan-made project titled “Bully Online” is in development — and it’s shaping up to be something special.

SWEGTA shared the news via X (formerly Twitter), writing:

“After years of development, I'm glad to finally announce that BULLY ONLINE is happening! Minigames, roleplay, freeroam, and a ton of exclusive content — made by fans for the fans. We'll be unveiling the trailer + some gameplay. Canis Canem Edit!”

While this isn’t an official Rockstar Games release, it’s quickly generating major buzz. Bully Online promises multiplayer modes, customizable gameplay, and a vast freeroam experience — essentially bringing Bullworth Academy back to life for the modern era.

Fans Are Overjoyed — and a Little Nervous

The announcement trailer gives players a first look at the new mode, showcasing the familiar school setting along with new activities and player interactions. As expected, the Bully community is ecstatic.

One YouTube comment summed up the general feeling perfectly:

“This might be the best thing that happened in the Bully community! Great work, congrats!”

Another longtime fan added:

“You and your team have saved Bully's online community and are delivering us basically everything we've ever dreamed of over the years. You continue to be goated, Sweg. The extent to which you are dedicated to this community is beyond admirable.”

However, not all fans are entirely at ease. Some are concerned that Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar’s parent company, may take action to shut down the project due to copyright issues — a common fate for fan-made adaptations. For now, though, Bully Online is moving forward, with an early access release planned for December 2025.

A Legacy Worth Reviving

Bully remains one of Rockstar’s most unique creations — a grounded, character-driven story that tackled adolescence, authority, and rebellion with humor and empathy. Unlike the sprawling worlds of GTA or Red Dead, Bully kept things personal and relatable, offering players a glimpse into the everyday struggles and absurdities of school life.

For years, rumors of Bully 2 have surfaced — from alleged internal prototypes to leaks suggesting the sequel was in development before being shelved in favor of other major projects. Yet the continued fan dedication, reflected in projects like Bully Online, shows just how much passion still exists for this forgotten gem.

The Bottom Line

Whether or not Rockstar decides to revisit Bully officially, the message from players couldn’t be clearer — this world still matters. The creativity and determination of fans like SWEGTA’s team prove that the Bully community is as strong as ever, ready to keep Bullworth alive in whatever form it takes.

For now, Bully Online may be the next best thing — a heartfelt tribute to a timeless classic that deserves its place alongside Rockstar’s greatest hits.
