Trump Teases 2028, Constitution Raises Eyebrow

WASHINGTON: President Donald Trump is thinking big again — bigger than the Constitution allows. House Speaker Mike Johnson told reporters Tuesday that he does not “see a path” for Trump to run for a third term, politely reminding everyone that the 22nd Amendment exists for a reason.

“It’s been a great run, but I think the president knows, and he and I have talked about, the constrictions of the Constitution,” Johnson said. Translation: “No, you cannot do this legally, please stop asking.”

Johnson, a constitutional lawyer, explained that amending the Constitution to allow a third term would take roughly ten years, require two-thirds of the House and three-fourths of the states, and probably a miracle or two. In other words, it’s easier to get a cat to sign a tax return.

Trump, who was touring Asia, apparently did not get the memo. When asked about a potential 2028 run, he said he’d “love to do it” and teased that Democrats “don’t have a great group of people” like his team does. Meanwhile, Trump merchandise has already leapfrogged ahead: the official website has been selling “Trump 2028” hats all year, because why let the law slow down your branding?

Johnson acknowledged the hats’ popularity, adding that they are likely meant to provoke Democrats. “Trump has a good time trolling the Democrats, whose hair is on fire by the very prospect,” he said.

So, the bottom line: Constitution says two terms. Trump says, “Let’s see what happens.” Johnson says, “We’ve got three extraordinary years ahead, please calm down.” And the American people? Watching, buying hats, and laughing quietly at the chaos.
