Two Killed in Back-to-Back Wrong-Way Crashes on Florida’s Turnpike

In the dim hours before dawn on Sunday, Florida’s Turnpike became the scene of unimaginable loss. Two people are dead and two others remain hospitalized after a pair of wrong-way crashes that unfolded within moments of each other in Miami-Dade County.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the first collision occurred around 4 a.m. in the northbound lanes near Bird Road. A blue Honda, traveling against the flow of traffic, slammed head-on into a silver Toyota. The violent impact left both cars mangled, their engines silent in the middle of the highway. Neither driver survived. Their names have not yet been released.

As troopers and first responders rushed to the scene, tragedy struck again. A white Toyota, also moving the wrong way, crashed into the already disabled vehicles and a patrol cruiser parked nearby. Video shared on social media shows the moment of impact, a flash of headlights followed by chaos.

Two occupants of the white Toyota were airlifted to Kendall HCA Hospital with serious injuries. A state trooper, who was standing outside their cruiser when it was struck, escaped harm.

By sunrise, all northbound lanes of the Turnpike were closed, traffic rerouted to Bird Road as investigators worked under flashing lights and an overcast sky.
